DJ HP Dethrones two-time Soca Monarch Ricky-T
A mere few hours ago St.Lucia crowned their new Power Soca King HP. History was made at Socarific Saturday with a Disc Jockey claiming the crown, in what could be described as an intense battle for the crown. HP entered the competition as a crowd’s favorite under a studio 758 production; Ricky T’s song which centered on the issue of his past production camp with the refrain “they cyah stop it” could not muster to the force HP’s Pa Mele had which ignited crowd.
A few notably performances were that of Ricky T’s brother, Ambi who for a new artist in the competition was a natural! Superman HD was “Ready for them” indeed with a performance featuring a zip line, which at first glance presented many difficulties however he was one of the few artists to hype the crowd. Soca Sensation, Q-Pid was not as successful in placing but nonetheless her performance was nothing short of her style. Teddyson John who for the first time competed in this competition was one of the crowd’s favorite but not enough to place. The results of the night
1st – HP
2nd Ricky T
3rd Superman HD
Tonight the Groovy King with his sweet melodies undoubtedly retained the crown with a second consecutive win, in this competition. With fourteen competitors vying for the crown , one could have concluded from the onset that it was not leaving the King Alpha. Superman HD “ Gros Pwel” and Nicole David’s “Mr. Dean Dough” were not too far behind placing in second and third respectively.
Overall the Power Soca Segment outshone that of the Groovy in what was a Socarific Saturday. The post mortem on the competition will be posted soon!
