Beausejour Cricket Grounds - St. Lucia

At a press briefing held yesterday at the Cultural Development Foundation, Barnard Hill in Castries, the Executive Director Kennedy “Boots” Samuel laid out the various plans which have been confirmed for the staging of this year’s St. Lucia Carnival 2011.

Mr. Samuels explained that issues of finance which have surfaced in the past years have been put to rest with the Government of St. Lucia confirming its financial support for this year’s staging of carnival.

The Executive director went on to list the various events which have been confirmed and indicated that the foundation, was unable to secure the traditional Mindoo Phillip Grounds for the staging of St. Lucia Carnivals main stage events. In its place the Beausejour Cricket Grounds situated in the North of the island has been confirmed for these main stage events.

Mr. Samuels did indicate that they are working very closely with the administrators of the facility to put in place measures and ensure that the grounds will remain in its current condition for use after the Carnival season.

Mr. Samuels was asked about the broadcast of events this year and he also indicated that negotiations are on-going with various stakeholders with regards to the production and broadcast of carnival 2011. It was also mentioned that the CDF is looking into the possibility of charging interested persons for the rights to record and/or broadcast Carnival events this year.
